19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for nearly 30 months with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid period, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time coach Cervara.

Presently collaborating with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over challenger Moutet.

This represents his initial title since the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface from spring of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has secured 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I am participating in a event with my children at once, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the initial championship I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, comprising in Halle previously this season.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and recurring reactions on the playing surface had led some to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

Yet the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and perform positively, supported by an improved serving game.

The champion recovered from a deficit in the first set against the challenging Moutet, winning 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his first tour victory, took control to push for a third set.

The opponent saved four early opportunities in a tight final set before Medvedev secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched victory with a rally at the net, with his opponent failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
